Why not speak?
Speaking is everything if you want to grow your business.
I know it is scary and I know you would rather jump off a tall building without a parachute than stand up and speak in front of a group of people. But what if you could change just one person’s life if you just told them what you do?
Speaking in public is something that we have forgotten how to do. Before the digital age, we would speak all the time. We would do live presentations, we would speak in school and we would speak in all sorts of places. But we now speak to ourselves through the medium of live streaming, video and social media.
And many of you do speak to yourselves. You forget that on the other side of the screen is an audience that could be as low as 1 up to 100’s so you are speaking to someone.
When you are speaking online, there is a need to really be talking to people. You need to think of it as having a conversation and not just reading something you have written or stumble along trying to remember everything.
We are simple folk and when we are listening to someone, the less information you give us the better we are able to digest it, so don’t get complicated and try to tell people everything. Break your message down into small bite size recordings and people will listen, understand and most importantly remember. You could have the best broadcast in the world, but if people don’t remember what you said then it was all a waste of time.
- Put a picture of your ideal client just above the camera on your computer or phone
- Talk to that client as if they were there in front of you
- Talk a lot slower than you think you because believe me you will be talking a lot faster than you think you are.
- Lean forward so that you are engaging with your audience on the other side of the screen
- Keep the message clear and simple.
Follow those steps and you will soon find yourself enjoying talking to your audience and they will enjoy listening to you.
